Dual battery setup in overlanding rigs

I get this question about the best dual battery set up fairly often so just a few thoughts. This does not apply to two coach batteries in larger campers and RV's. For these I advise the largest true deep cycle batteries you can fit and unless you have plenty of room and weight in not a concern there is no need for dual six volt batteries. Slowing down and exploring

On the way back from Overland East in North Carolina the plan was to drive straight back to Washington. I rarely get sick but the flu changed those plans mid Kansas, after three days camped on the banks of a lake I decided to go slower and actually take some of the many gravel roads I have no good reason to pass up all the time.
